American Association of Philatelic Exhibitors - 2002 News

  • The AAPE Board met at the APS Annual STaMpsHOW in Atlantic City, NJ on 17 August 2002. President Charles Verge called the meeting to Order at 12:10 PM.
  • Attending were Charles Verge, Ada Prill, Paul Tyler, Tim Bartshe, Pat Walker, David Herendeen, Nancy Clark, Ann Triggle and Peter McCann.
  • It was announced that Ameristamp Expo 2003 will be held with the APS Winter show in Biloxi, Mississippi, February 28th through March 2nd, 2003.

  • It was stated that APS is considering raising their One-frame fees by $5.00. One of the major goals of AAPE is to encourage new exhibitors and entries in this category and it was felt that additional costs would be a detriment to new exhibitors entering single frames. Following a discussion It was agreed to propose to APS a Tripartite schedule of fees based upon the experience of the exhibitor.
    1. First-time exhibitor at the APS National show, free entry fee
    2. First-time single frame exhibit by an experienced exhibitor, on-half entry fee
    3. Experienced single frame exhibitor, the full APS Frame fee.

AAPE will, if necessary, pick up the difference, especially for category 1 above. Further discussions will take place between APS and AAPE on this proposal.

  • Ada Prill announced that Kent Kuran, 15, was the Grand Award Winner at the AAPE Youth Champion of Champions Exhibit held in June in Orlando Florida in conjunction to the ATA’s National Topical Stamp Show 2002.

  • Ada announced that the next two AAPE Youth Championship competitions will be held at NAPEX in 2003 and INDYPEX in 2004. It is hoped that the 2005 Championships will be held at ROPEX, now that it is being held in the month of June.

  • At the suggestion of Joe Crosby of OKPEX, the Board approved the creation of a NOVICE award to be given at any WPS show for the best exhibit of a first-time exhibitor at a National Show. The criteria would be that the Novice’s exhibit must have received a show medal of at least a Bronze or better. The Director of Conventions and meetings will explore the produce of a suitable medal consistent with the AAPE’s other awards.

  • Nancy Clark announced that a Youth Web Site is underdevelopment. They are looking for sponsors that would be responsible for the content of the site for a month. The Board deferred this item until the next Board Meeting at the APS Winter Show.

  • The AAPE Board also approved a Youth membership in AAPE for one-half the normal dues or Ten Dollars. It was also decided that each participant in the Youth Champion of Champions Competition will receive a complimentary subscription to TPE and a one year membership in AAPE.
